Vector Diary’s 30 Day Course is actually where I started. Although the course was created back in 2014 and uses Illustrator CS5 it will work for any version.
“ No matter what version you installed, you will definitely benefit from this Illustrator crash course. The lessons are kept easy and simple so that anyone can be confident in using Illustrator after this crash course!”
It covers everything from finding your way around the Illustrator workspace to creating a logo.
EnavtoTuts+ has many in-depth blog posts explaining Illustrator Tools. They have articles to help you master everything from the Pen Tool to the Pathfinder Panel and everything in between.
EnvatoTuts+ 60 Second Video Tutorials offer bite sized tutorials that you can finish quickly. These short videos cover a wide range of topics from the Transform Panel to Creating an Avatar Icon. There are 65 tutorials in total, but you will have to do some searching to find what you want to learn, especially since Photoshop and Illustrator are lumped together.
This is the premium course from EnvatoTuts+. It’s just over 2.5 hours long and contains 23 lessons. The lessons start with a program overview and cover everything from drawing with the pen tool to exporting, saving, and printing your files.
You can watch this course for free during a free trail of Tuts+ or you buy it for $9USD.

Brad Woodard of Brave the Woods teaches six different classes on learning Illustrator, including a four-part class on the Fundamentals of Illustrator. Each class teaches a few core elements of Illustrator. He starts with document setup in Class 1 and covers such topics as using the pathfinder panel, patterns and swatches, and the appearance panel, and so much more.
In Jason Buff’s short class he promises to teach you Illustrator in one hour. And while that seems like a pretty bold statement to make, his reviews appear to back him up.
Although he can’t teach everything on one hour, he does go over the basics such as the pen tool, the text tool, and the appearance panel, and more.
Julian Burford’s class is not for the complete beginner, but I’ve included it here as it does go over the basics of Illustrator with beginners’ in mind. It’s also a project–based class (unlike the others listed), with the end goal of creating a retro-inspired movie poster in mind. With 14 lessons, it covers everything from sketching to adding textures in Photoshop to finish off the project.
